On Saturday 22nd February we arrived at the iMuseum in Kingswood Grove, Douglas, and were greeted by former Curator Yvonne Cresswell and Katie King who had laid out quilts from the collection and a very interesting slide show of textiles from mid 1800’s onwards.
One quilt had been to American and back several times before remaining here in the hands of a local family. Some quilts had been left to the museum by Manx families so they have history but some have been in private collections and have very little history other than technique and fabrics.
We were allowed to look more closely at the exhibits but no touching! Very delicate fabrics eg silk and velvet were used especially in the crazy patchwork example.
We thanked the ladies for a fabulous morning and some members continued their day by visiting the Archibald Knox exhibition in the Manx Museum which is only on for a few more weeks. An extremely cultural learning day!
